DTE Energy names Tony Tomczak vice president, Corporate Services and chief procurement officer

DETROIT, June 26, 2018 — DTE Energy today named Tony Tomczak as vice president, Corporate Services and chief procurement officer. In this expanded role, Tomczak will continue to oversee the energy company’s procurement, warehousing, fleet, facilities and real estate operations.

“In his 12 years with DTE Energy, Tony has led significant operational improvements while substantially expanding our efforts to be a Force for Growth through local economic development and environmental sustainability,” said Dave Meador, vice chairman and chief administrative officer.

During his tenure at DTE, Tomczak’s innovative approach to supplier diversity outreach has boosted the local economy and increased business development. DTE Energy is a founding member of Pure Michigan Business Connect, a public-private initiative that encourages companies to buy from Michigan vendors, and “connects” local companies on a variety of business opportunities.

More than 70 percent of DTE’s purchasing dollars now go to Michigan businesses, achieved without compromising cost or quality. In the past eight years, DTE Energy has spent more than $7.5 billion with local suppliers of goods and services, creating 16,000 jobs.

Tomczak’s commitment to supplier diversity was recognized earlier this year when he was sworn in as chairman of the board of the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council. He is the first non-automotive chairman in the organization’s 40-year history. In May, Tomczak accepted the Edison Electric Institute’s 2018 Business Diversity Innovation Award on behalf of DTE – one of the highest supplier diversity honors in the energy business.

Tomczak also chairs the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation Buyers Board, serves as past chair of the Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance, and is on the executive board for the Utility Purchasing Management Group. Tomczak earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, and his Master of Science in Industrial Operations from Lawrence Technological University.
