DTE Energy employees, Foundation join to support three hurricane relief efforts
DETROIT, Oct. 26, 2017 — This week, three charities providing relief efforts for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria will receive a total of $175,000 from the DTE Energy Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. In September, the Foundation invited DTE Energy employees to participate in fundraising and committed to matching employee donations dollar-for-dollar up to $75,000. DTE Employees donated nearly $100,000 to help those affected, maximizing the Foundation match program.
“We are humbled by the generosity of our employees who donated without hesitation to three hurricane relief efforts in a matter of weeks,” said Faye Nelson, DTE Energy vice president and board chair and president of the DTE Energy Foundation. “During times of need, DTE employees display the highest level of compassion and charity. The Foundation is proud to build on their generosity with supporting dollars.”
During times of crisis, the DTE Energy Foundation activates its disaster relief program, inviting DTE Energy employees to contribute and providing a pre-determined matching contribution. Never before has the Foundation activated the program three times in a month, but the quick succession of natural disasters warranted the unprecedented action.
Of the total $175,000 in aid, $100,000 will be donated to the American National Red Cross, $60,000 will be donated to Direct Relief and $15,000 will be donated to World Central Kitchen. Each contribution will be earmarked to benefit relief efforts for all three disasters.
“These are worthy organizations who do important work to support communities in need,” said Nelson. “The Foundation is honored to join with DTE Energy employees and support these vital efforts.”
